I have a PowerMac G4 1ghz and will be getting dsl. I'm going to set it up wireless even though it's one computer so that I can add machines in the future (possibly a PowerBook and friend's PC). DSL company will provide the modem.
My understanding is that I need a wireless router and I'm thinking the Netgear MR814 802.11b Wireless 4-Port Cable/DSL Router would be a good choice?
Then don't I need the Apple Airport card or a wireless PCI card? Would the Apple airport card be the better choice?
Thanks for your help.

I would go with the Airport card only because you would save a PCI slot. Plus, you won't have that antenna sticking out of the back of your machine.
Another benefit is not having to worry about finding drivers for the 3rd-party card.
Just a suggestion. I would look into getting the 802.11g router instead of the 11b one. Just for future expansion in case you acquire some more computers. Unless the $20 extra is too much.
Amazon currently has the Netgear routers for $57 for the 614 and $38 for the 814. Both of these prices are after a $20 rebate. You can also get free shipping.

Apple's airport will be the best choice. Other brands, common in PC land, don't have drivers for Macs.
An ethernet cable for the initial setup is best, and may be required for you to log into the router to set things up properly.
I'd advise to get the faster wifi router if you intend to share files between machines or will be connecting between machines remotely. 802.11b is fine for browsing & downloading from the internet. I'd still go with G though simply because it's a more current & updated machine. (11b was the initial series coming on the market).
