Just today I looked down at our nice white Apple Pro Keyboard, and underneath the clear plastic is all dirty, and grimy. Same with the underside and under the keys. Any ideas on how I could go about cleaning it up?

Keys should be fairly easy to pop off using a think screwdriver to start and then simply using your fingers for the rest of them. Then you can clean underneath them and also clean the keys themselves (dishwashers work wonders!). As for the rest of the disassembly, it is a very tedious process that I would not suggest to anyone but a very experienced modder. I'm definitely not gonna do it again /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Here is a nice step-by-step of the process.

I used to just blow off the keyboard with the canned spray stuff to get the junk out. Sorry I can't help you with the sticky stuff, don't eat next to your keyboard, expecially the new G5 model.

I have heard of people putting whole keyboards in the dishwasher - is this acceptable?

Yes... yes it is. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
NO! STOP! Don't do it! Don't ever get anything electronic in large amounts of water. Cleaning it with a damp cloth is one thing, submersing it into a dishwasher is quite another.

Not to burst anyone's bubble, but I've washed my keyboard under the sink three times to wash out beer and the only thing I needed to do to get it working again was let it dry for a couple days. I don't recommend this to anyone, but not all hope is lost.

Should now = not in your post? At any rate, I've also plugged it in wet a few times. Mostly, the keyboard just doesn't work. A few times, it acts as if one of the keys is being held down. That's about it, no harm.

Well, for keyboards or anyone's water-logged wristwatch, I know that placing an electronic item in the refrigerator for a few days is an excellent way to suck all the humidity out of something you can't otherwise dry off.
I have heard of people washing their keyboards, then refrigerating them for a few days and then using them with no problems. If you feel adventurous you can try that and report back.

Thanks for the replies, I think I may just pop a few keys of and use a Q-tip or a vacuum. I'm not brave enough to throw it under water.... Yet. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I once put a keyboard through the dishwasher after I thought it was dead. After letting it dry for three days it was tried and found to be good again.
The force of running water helps flush things out, but if that is necessary, pour a bottle of rubbing alcohol over it to encourage it to dry inside.
