For the past several weeks, my email client (Mail 1.1) can't download emails from comcast.net, except when there are only one or two or three emails waiting on the server. If there are 6 or 8 or 10, the download times out and the mail remains on the server. I just spoke with a customer service rep at Comcast and he thinks that the problem is that many of the emails are spam. This is true, but the problem did not occur until very recently and my email has always included a large proportion of spam. The customer rep also wondered about a possible flaw in MacMail. I have tried turning off my spam filters. I also deleted and then recreated my account. Neither of these fixes worked. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

I am having the exact same problem. I also have Entourage, and that works fine. I dumped mail prefs etc, but the problem still happens. Then, mail worked fine for a day, and now mail just hangs after getting a few emails. It always stops on a junk mail, so I figure something is wrong within mail, rather than at Comcast. I wonder if there is a special type of junk mail that just stops mail, confusing it somehow. I am working combination of junk mail filter off, training, etc, to see if something works. Mail 1.2.5 now won't accept more than 7 emails, and stops on junk. Hmm

I should have read all the posts before I posted my email problem. Today my mail account stopped receiving mail. I sent myself a letter and it would not receive it. I too am on comcast.

I got this comment from comcast about email that hangs.
Thank you for contacting Comcast Cable.
If you are using a mail client for e-mail and receive an error only when
receiving, but can send fine, one or more of the headers on an e-mail
waiting for download is most likely corrupted. The corrupted header will
not harm your computer but will prevent your mail client from retrieving
that e-mail. This is more commonly referred to as a "stuck" message.
When you have a "stuck" message, you will receive a copy of each message
before the "stuck" one each time you try to download your e-mail. For
example, if message number 10 is stuck and you try to download your mail
10 times, you will receive 10 copies of messages 1 through 9.
To resolve this issue, you will need to either delete the "stuck"
message from the server by going to the Comcast Mail Center at
www.comcast.net and deleting it or reconfigure Outlook Express using the
SSL settings below. If you choose the first option, make sure you delete
it from your Trash folder after deleting it from the Inbox.

Tried all that with comcast. They told me that it was probably a problem with them and that hey should have it resolved in two days. That would be by Tuesday.

I went to live chat and the suggestion was to delete my email account and establish another one. I just did that, and will send a few emails to myself to see if that helps. For once I need some junk mail to see if it still hangs on junk. I have the hunch that for some of us mac mail won't handle some of the newer junk stuff and will have to be changed. Entourage works well, so it isn't my server or computer.

update. Now mac mail 1.2.5 is working fine. I don't know if comcast fixed things at their end, or my deleting the account and then adding it did the trick. Hope it lasts.

Your mac mail and comcast mail, user name and password must be the same. Mine became corrupted (meaning I probably changed it) I reset my mail password and everything works fine. javascript:void(0)
