Can anyone tell me how this device is given a cold reset? I'm trying to set up my HP Laserjet 1200 printer, having changed to a new G5 set-up, but I've lost the operating instructions. The G5 is linked to an Ethernet router and so is the printer, via its associated JetDirect print server. To get them connected, I need an IP address for the JetDirect. It's supposed to print out a configuration sheet when a button on it is pressed, but it prints the configuration sheet with only a set of zeros (which don't work!).
All HP will tell me is to do a cold reset. There's no reset button on the device and I've tried unplugging it and starting again, without effect. Before I throw it out of the window and buy a different printer, I'm trying this forum in the hope that someone can help?

Here's a direct link for cold reset for your 175X:

Also, for future reference, here's the technical support page for the 175X:

Good luck

Very many thanks for your helpful suggestions. I'd managed to find the technical support page, but the other one had eluded me.
Unfortunately, although the instructions are quite clear, it now seems that my JetDirect has decided not to work! It happily flashes away, but then refuses to print the configuration page. I'm switching it all off and hoping that an hour or two of rest might do the trick. If not, out of the window it all goes and I shall go looking for another (non-HP!) printer.

Don't know why that link didn't work for you.
here's the cut & paste of the needed text:
1) To cold reset an HP Jetdirect external print server, unplug the power cord from the HP Jetdirect print server, then hold down the TEST button (on top of or in back of the HP Jetdirect) for five to 30 seconds while plugging in the power cord.
This is in case the configuration test page didn't print
2) Press the TEST button on the top or the back of the HP Jetdirect print server. The print server should auto-negotiate the Printer Description Language (PDL) and the Configuration page should print.
If the Configuration page does not print, the PDL may need to be changed manually. Hold down the TEST button, using information in the table below, then release. A Configuration page should print after releasing the button, but if it does not, press the TEST button once to print.
To change the PDL on the external print server HP 175x EX (J6035A), HP 310x EX (J6038A), HP 380x (J6061A), HP en3700 (J7942A)
1. Press and hold the TEST button. Continue to hold the button until the power/status light first changes to amber, then flashes green. Then, release the button.
2. Press the TEST button again once to print the Configuration page.
3. Repeat steps as necessary until the Configuration page prints correctly.
Lastly:
The page language can also be set through the embedded Web server. Enter the TCP/IP address of the HP Jetdirect in a supported browser; click Networking, then USB Settings.
Good luck

Thank you again for your help. Sadly, despite repeated attempts and following the instructions to the letter, I've been unable to get the JetDirect to print a Configuration page with anything but a row of zeros for the IP address. That rules out the last option - that of entering the TCP/IP address and changing the settings.
I'm surprised that there isn't a standard IP address for the JetDirect. If there were, I could solve the problem, but since there doesn't appear to be one, I can only try the cold reset method. Since that patently isn't working, I'm at a complete loss! /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Before you throw the device out, do consider giving HP tech support a call. I initially had some problems with my 175x as well. Tech support walked me through some strange button pushing with the test/reset button to get it to sync with my router. Unfortunately, I didn't record the sequence.

I suddenly realised I might be able to get the IP address by connecting up my old computer and trying again. This time, the JetDirect printed its IP address quite happily as 192.0.0.192 so I then reconnected my new G5/Panther system to the hub and tried again. This time, the JetDirect again printed its configuration page and gave the same IP address (192.0.0.192), so I thought I was home and dry!
No such luck. Typing that address into the web browser (i.e. http://192.0.0.192/hp/jetdirect/) produces nothing at all. I checked that the browser is working to the internet (via the Ethernet link, not Airport) and I've changed nothing at the router. The printer set up utility shows the printer (using this new IP address) and when I try to print, the utility again shows that it is trying to connect, so it has clearly got a job in progress.
I've confirmed that the Network pane in the Systems Preferences shows the same data for both computers in terms of things like subnet mask and router ID (but different IP addresses for the two computers themselves, of course).
I've run out of ideas and any suggestions would be much appreciated.
