I do not want to start a war here, just a simple question.
How difficult would it be to put a standard pc motherboard into a G4 case?
As I understand it the case has the atx layout, though I have heard that I will have to use a PC powersupply. Also from what I have seen is that there are 4 PCI slots, so I do believe that I will have to get a new motherboard (currently have 5 PCI and one AGP).
I am getting sick of the standard pc box layout and I like the design of the G4 case (hence the question in my first post), hence why the idea came to me. I have seen such mods done before in a few mags.
Has anyone done such a thing before?

I don't want any wars here either, but I have a counter-question for you: Why would you want to?

As I said, I am getting sick of the same cases over and over in the PC market. I like the style of the G4 case, I just don't like the ability of the G4 for what I do on a computer.

I beta test a lot of games coming out. Recent tests are SWG, Lords of Everquest, Earth & Beyond, Uru, Joan of Arc, Rubies of Eventide.
These games are sometimes funky on Windows, and some were small companies. They had crew to develop on Windows, they did not develop on a Mac.
I do a lot of gaming, at home and at lans, and I have found that Macs are not suitable for gaming. Not so much as the games are not as quickly made for Macs, as the Mac just can't keep up with the performance of a Gaming PC.
To me Macs are great for pics and video, just not gaming.

Its been done a lot. But if you've never done a case mod, I would suggest not to.

I have done case mods before. Lights, fans, drive bays where none were before, patterns with a dremel (not good to start, but did get a lot better), even tinkered with water cooling a time or three.
What I am asking for is if someone here has done so before how much work is involved. I have seen a few sites on the mod and I am wondering if it would be worth the effort.

We won't tell Sam that you said that, and maybe you can get away quietly.
Try Apple Fritter, they like case mods over there.

A straight answer -- shouldn't be too difficult for the MB, different MB mounting holes. I don't know exactly how the standoffs are mounted in the G4 case but adding standoffs to a sheet of metal is no big.
You'll most likely need to put in a PC power supply. The on off cycling is controlled differently. That will be a more difficult mod, just a little sheet metal work.
Lastly pay attention to the power switch wiring, hate to cross wiring something and let the smoke out.
Good luck and let us know if you want to get rid of the extra mac parts /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
