And my monitor black-off sometime when i launched an application. (The power green light will turns to orange color) I have to re-boot the mac once it happened, i changed a new monitor but still getting the same problem oftenly, any advise please? This may be a firmware issue. What system do you have? Go to the Apple web site and see if a firmware update is required for you computer. Other than that you could try the standard PRAM reset.

hi jackmac
i owned a beige g3/233/416MB/usb pci-card: 2 pts-one to hp printer and one to cdrw.
running OS10.2.8.
is it complicated to update the firmware as you mentioned? i am afraid will getting more problem after doing it. (it was a 'BIG PROJECT' to install OSX into this older mac thou).
i still use my 17" philip monitor, i keep save my file while working on a project because i don't know when it will black-off again, kinda frustrated issue :-(

One thing you could try is lowering the resolution and colors. OS X might be hog for the beige G3/233. 416MB RAM seems enough for OS X.
BTW, some users won't miss the bong; I'm like you I would miss the bong.

Upgrading the firmware is quite easy, but the specifics vary with each Mac model. I would recommend doing the upgrade even if the solution to your problem lies elsewhere. Check here: Apple firmware page and if the upgrade is necessary follow the instructions in the "Read Me" document.

hi techman,
the 'bong' sound is useful to me, especially when i have this 'monitor black-off' problem. it tell me that my mac or my hd is still function at normal condition during boot-up, there i know, it's the monitor causes the problem :-), and i can't stand a 'non talking mac'!
thank you all of you, i will study more about upgrade the firmware, will do it when i feel it's safe..haha.
