Hi
I've read somewhere that Garageband is very demanding of processor power. I want to get an iMac for my family, and I know my kid will love Grageband (typical teenager). I would get the 1.25Ghz 17", and max the Ram. I would like to get 3 years out of the machine, at least.
Any advice / comments? thanks in advance!

I think the RAM is more important. Min. system specs listed are only 600 mhz G3, but on my 1 GHz G4 it performs quite slowly. Why? I have the minimum RAM- 256 built in. If I had 512 or a gig it would probably scream. As it is I can not have more than 4 tracks at once.

I have the 1.25 G4 and 512, it's still slow. I think it is definitely the most processor intensive program I have and the only thing I can get to crash on the mac, besides Finder going beserk requiring a restart.
It crashes if you have a track going over 3 minutes or so, even with nothing else open. If you have a bunch of tracks, oh, problems.
