Hi,
My Mom needs a new printer for her old iMac. She is running OS 9 and has only 64MB of RAM. She Bought an HP 3550 which said that it only needed 64 MB if running OS 9, but once she got it home and opened it, it turns out that it really needs 128 and that HP does not provide online tech support for Mac users (what's up with that?). I am about to take her shopping for a replacement and any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Mike

You didn't say what she wants to print or your budget.
Last year I bought a Canon Model S330 for less than $40. (The newer Canon models have an "i" in front of the model number) The specs are:
Mac OS 8.6-9.x, USB port (mine works on USB 1.1, but it will work on USB 2), 12MB RAM, 30 MB free HD space. (Also works on OS X using downloadable driver)
I previously had Epson printers (600 & 740), but both died from clogged print heads after about 2.5 years. To unclog the print head at a service place cost more than a new printer. The Canon has a removable print head that should be easy to clean. The black ink cartrige costs ~$7 & the 3-color cartridge costs ~$18.
Cheers, Tom
