The building I work in offers a free hot spot on its plaza. Brought my PB (Aluminum 12" running Panther, AE card, wireless at home just fine) to work to test it out. When I clicked to turn on the airport, it showed the location just fine -- "plaza", but would not connect. I'm sure I'm missing something simple, but just don't know how to connect. Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong? Thanks in advance!

Should work if your Network settings are AirPort TCP/IP set to DHCP and no other restrictions. If you use other settings for home or work, make a new Location.

Thanks for the response! Tried again, still no luck. Under Network, Airport is chosen to an Automatic location, TCP/IP is "Using DHCP"AppleTalk is inactive, and Proxies are all unchecked. Anything else? I have tried it with the firewall on and with it off, so that's not the answer either. When I turn the airport ON via the menu item, it sees the location as "plaza" like I said, and the signal strength shows O.K., so feel I am connected, just can't load anything. Is it possible the Wi-Fi in the building is not mac friendly? Or????

Does it require a password? I have problems connecting to encrypted networks ever since I upgraded to Panther. In Jaguar, there is a pull-down menu for type of password (40/128bit, Hex/ASCIII, LEAP). So far, I cannot find such an option in Panther, and I have no idea if Panther automatically knows or not. Anyway, I get an error message like "There was an error while trying to connect to 'Network'". Unless someone can shed some light, I may be forced to downgrade.
