OK - I'm a dummy. I admit it.
My husband and I have our computers on a LAN, mainly because we share our broadband connection. But once in a while we actually need to use file sharing between the two machines. Well, I tried to get to his computer through the Chooser and of course, it wants me to sign on with my password. I could have SWORN that I used my usual no-thinking-required password, but it isn't working! I keep having to sign on as "Guest". I can't stand having to be a "Guest" on my own network! And, of course, you can only change the password if you know the password. ARRRGH!! What do I do now?!
Oh, this is in 9.2.2
Thanks for any help!

Wow. I'm just shocked that I actually stumped all the experts on this board! I didn't think there was anything you guys didn't know!
Well, should I call Apple, do you think? There has to be some way to fix this stupid mistake of mine. I can't believe I'm the first person to have ever forgotten their password.
Thanks anyway -

I have been using OS X mainly for about 2 years solid now, so may be no help but here goes...
Under the File Sharing Control Panel, aren't there three entry boxes at the top of the window. User Name, Password, Network Name ? I don't think it asks you for a password if you change it there.
The only other, rather drastic, thing I can suggest is re - installing OS 9 as a separate folder. I cannot remember what this does (having not installed OS 9 for about 3 years /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif ) but it should enable you to re - input your settings and password.
Hope some (if not all) of that helps,
- Nemo
P.S. I wasn't "Stumped", I just hadn't seen the post before /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

OK - I've gone in there and changed the password! I sure hope that's it. I now just have to wait until my husband gets back from a business trip and connects his iBook so I can see if it works. Sure hope I don't have to do the reinstalling bit. What a pain.
Thanks!

PS - Didn't mean to insult you with the "stumped" comment! /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
