i was given an old apple pro keyboard - with my used G4 Power Mac - without the dedicated eject key on it like the new ones have got. now i have gotten myself into a rather rediculous predicament by erasing my hard drive with the disk utility in the Panther Install CD. I need to get that CD out of the drive & put Jaguar in - Panther is the upgrade disc set.
now i don't know what to do because usually before with my old apple pro keyboard with the eject key i would hold 'option' down on restart & eject the CD in that screen that has all of the system folders on your hard drive. i have no other system folders to choose because my disk is newly formatted. so there is no way to startup from any other disc than the Install Panther CD.
is there anyway to get the bay open manually with the "option (startup)" method. i've tried tapping 'Command E' but that does nothing.
i think i'm going to have to have a friend bring over a newer apple pro keyboard aren't i? i was holding out for an alternative method though since that will take sometime to arrange.
thanks.

Ejecting CD Manually

I don't think the keyboard will help, as I believe that relies on system software. You can try pressing F12 (sometimes I have to hold it for a second or so), as that acts as an eject button. Not sure if it works outside of the operating system, however.
If all else fails, you can gently open the CD cover on the case (the one that flips down). You should see a hole just big enough to stick an opened paperclip in. This is the emergency manual eject, and if you stick a paperclip in there it should eject it.

Whoa, whoa. Before you go the paperclip route (which I don't recommend), you should do the following. Now, if I read your post correctly, you've erased your hard drive. You want to take the Panther disc out and put the Jaguar disc in. Now, what you should do is hold your mouse button down (left mouse button if it's a multi-button mouse) as the computer starts up (be holding the button before the startup starts) and the computer should kick out the disc. No mechanical paper-clip coercion required.
