just changed to panther from os9. I'm used to making pdf's all the time. but in os9 when I"m making a PDF, and I go to the print dialogue box, I can click on printer and choose save as PDF. then some options come down. these I can choose to save as a screen, a print, a screen 2 and various other qualities. I use this when I'm emailing a huge project....... but now that I'm in OSX, I can't find where to do this. can you please help me out finding this. thanks

Example in Microsoft Word:
File-->Print
Set Printer to Adobe PDF
"Copies & Pages" (default that is first on the pulldown) pulldown to "PDF Options"
Adobe PDF Settings: Pick Standard, High Quality, Print Quality, etc.
If that doesn't help, let me know what program you are trying to print a PDF from.

I just tested in in Freehand MX in OS X 10.3.3.
Works the same as described for a Word document.
File-->Print
Printer: Adobe PDF
"Copies & Pages" pulldown to "PDF Options"
Adobe PDF Settings pulldown: you can select Smalles File Size, Standard, High Qualtiy, Press Quality, etc.
I don't have Quark, but it should work the same. As long as you have a PDF printer set up, you should be able to select it when printing and then specify the output resolution by using the PDF options.
If you have the full Adobe Acrobat, Adobe has a document specifically about printing a PDF from Quark:

I have had Acrobat Professional on my system since upgrading to CS. I am not sure if the menu options I am getting are part of Acrobat.
Do you have Adobe Acrobat or Acrobat Pro?
When you File-->Print, in the "Printer:" pulldown, is there a Abobe PDF printer listed?
The other thing I am looking into is the Presets. Mine has several presets that I set up quite a while back. Since 10.3, I have lost the ability to create new ones (or at least how to create new ones). I will continue to work on it and hopefully others will join in on the discussion. There are lots of posts across several forums relating to the same problem in specifying output quality on printers as well as PDF's. I don't know how something that used to be so simple became so esoteric.

It might be the point you are holding down the Option key.
Open Printer Setup Utility
Option key while selecting Printers > Add Printer
(Option key adds Advanced to the pull-down list)
Pull down to Advanced
The Device list should now have Adobe PDF, Appletalk Printer Access Protocol, Appsocket, Bluetooth Printer, Fax Printer, and more.
Are you seeing any of these items in the Advanced > Device list?

i know.
i've hold the option key at the right moment, and i HAVE the "advanced" choice
but once i've clicked "advanced" ,
when i want to select the device, i don't have "adobe PDF" in the list...
all the other (Appletalk Printer Access Protocol, Appsocket, Bluetooth Printer, Fax Printer, ...) are there but NOT Adobe PDF.
