There seems to to be some confusion on the nature of the iMac G4 fan, some say it turns off and on depending on tasks, others swear it's constantly on and varies speeds depending on tasks. I know for a fact that my iMac 17" 1 GHz fan is on from boot up and stays on until I shut down (is off in sleep mode too), it's speed and noise varies slightly depending on what I doing. Others have told me that this is wrong and I should get it taking care off, should I worry? Maybe the 15" vary from the 17"? Anyway let's settle this and have a poll, is your iMac fan on/off or always on?

My 17" iMac fan is always on, though very low noise and not intrusive. I don't do much serious processing, so my cooling vents on the top have never even been warm, but, the fan IS on. Bob

My fan is on whenever it's not sleeping. I've never noticed a speed change even when processing large Photoshop files

Fan I didn't even know my 20inch iMac had one. I can't hear it at all. All I can hear is the dvd drive spinning up.

The sound of blood pulsing through my veins when gazing at my beautiful iMac is louder than the fan, even after 18 months of daily use and sleep instead of shutdownexcept for reboots after updates/downloads. What a joy!
