I'm wanting to buy a camcorder for use with iMovie. I am considering either a Sony or Canon. In my searches in my local area all I seem to find are models which are not listed in the compatibility chart for iMovie listed at apples site. I believe any firewire DV camera would work in iMovie but iMovie can only "control" those it supports, right? I would like to buy one which is supported fully. I'm wondering how up to date that list is and if a camera model which is only a few models newer/older will still work just fine. Any suggestions?

There are many camcorders that will work but are not listed as supported. I have a Sharp for instance and it works fine and is controllable via iMovie and FCP, but not listed on the compatibility chart. Your best bet is to take a laptop (if you have one) to the store and ask to hook up the floor model and check it out. Or go to a store that carries both Macs and camcorders and put the 2 together.

Thaks for the reply. I decided on the Sony DCR-TVR19 which falls between two supported models from apples site. It seems to work fine on my friends PB which we brought with us to the store (My iBook is in the shop with logic board issues /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif ) It's seems like the models listed from apple are no longer found in stores, maybe it's a old list. Anyway, I hope to enjoy the Sony and make some cool movies with it. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
