I'd like to hear about your experiences using metallic inks in tandem with process (4c) printing.
Yeah, yeah, I know this isn't "technically" a Mac question...but I'm designing and designating plates in QXP6.0 on a Mac.
Here's my situation: I've just finished designing a series of brochures to match an existing series of brochures. The existing uses a silver metallic PMS under a process vignette bar, and I'd like to follow suit. Next week we go on press, and the metallic ink is budgeted into the job.
Problem is, I've never used the two in tandem. I've used process and metallic separately, but not on top of each other.
So, does anyone have an experience or advice they'd like to share? I'm not a rookie, so feel free to talk shop.
Thanks!

My first hint would be, check how it is going to be printed! Is it going to be done on a 4 colour press and the spot to be added after or is it gonna be done on a multi colour press ie. will the CMYK elements be printed first? if this is the case then make sure all of the Black knocks out rather than overprints. I'm afraid this may also give you problems with fit, especially if its being printed at a smaller firm that still uses a single colour GTO to print the final spot colour! You may want to ask about what kind of trapping would be acceptable!
