I've registered 3 domains with Network Solutions and they are expensive. My wife recently registered 3 domains with Godaddy.com and my friend did 2 with them. Each one of them is in control of their domains, and although they are not very Internet savy, they were able to set up their domains and point them at their new ISPs.
My most recent ISP is interadvantage.com. Through them I am hosting six domains for $100 annually. They are very fast. I am in the process of configuring one of their slide show utilities to host my online photo galleries.

I have used dixiesys.com as my host for two years now and I am quite pleased. They offer IMAP as well.

Forgot to mention my domain is registered with Go Daddy.
