When I select the part of the movie I want to take out and want to save separately as a small file, quicktime 6 pro won't let me copy or cut anymore! The options are grayed out. How can I do this?

This has been one of my major gripes with QT. Each of the last two major releases of this software has made working with .mpg's more and more difficult.

Its frustrating because I want to take a part of a quicktime movie and convert the sound to mp3 so I can listen to it on CD. Any ideas???

have you tried exporting it as a quicktime .mov, then working with the resulting file? kind of a long process for such a simple procedure, but that should work.

if you just want to extract audio, you can export it to a .dv movie, then cut the part that you want out with imovie and extract the audio from there. it should give you an uncompressed audio file that you can convert to mp3 in itunes.

Unfortunately, converting mpg's to QT mov's strips the files of their sound so that all you get is the picture. images/icons/rolleyes.gif
