OK, I finally found the culprit--massive number of fonts installed by AdobeCS in main Library-Application Support-Adobe-Fonts folder. Does anyone know which of these fonts can be turned off? Tried getting rid of everything but the "reqd" folder & CS crashed. Tried the Adobe forum but no luck... Also, any way to change the default font from Adobe Times Roman in the Character Style? aaaarrgh!

I trashed all the fonts in that folder without any problems. Did you trash all the AdobeFnt.#st?
Open ID (with out any document open) change font to what you want and it will default to the new selected font.

I'm not sure about InDesign, but in Quark, if you want to make global changes like the default Normal font, you have to make the changes without any files open. I'd be willing to bet that you could do the same thing in InDesign.
