It's extremely cool that making zip files is a built-in feature of Panther. But is there any way to change the default settings?
When Panther archives are unzipped on a Windows PC, a folder named "MACOSX" appears, and each unzipped directory has a ".DS_Store" file. Presumably this is resource fork info and desktop info.
I work with a lot of Windows-using clients who will freak out if they receive the extra files. (Yeah, I know. But believe me, no matter what I tell them, they'll think I sent 'em a virus or something.)
DropZip, which I currently use, has an "Ignore FInder desktop files" option which keeps these extra files from appearing. Is there any way to set Panther to do the same?
Thanks.

One workaround that I've heard works is if you create a non-HFS disk image, copy your stuff to it, then zip it, it shouldn't have thsoe files (since they don't exist). But if you open the image on your Mac before zipping, it will add the files. Note that I have never tested this theory...
Your best bet is probably a third-party solution /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif.

i wish you could.
it would be so nice to be able to click a option like 'made windows friendly zip files'.
I hope apple includes this in a update.

Stuffit Deluxe lets you do what you want (from the makers of Stuffit Expander, of course).
