for protecting my mac in the internet i want to use a SOFTWARE-firewall:
which product should i use? the mac os x 10.3.4 firewall, norton personal firewall 3.x or another product?

sorry, but I don`t have that in depth knowledge of firewalls to answer your last question
I normally prefer to use open source products because they tend to be really well in in depth tested by a big number of programmers, not only one company. But that`s only my personal preference

I tried the Intego firewall, 2 years ago. The damn thing wouldnt allow my Mac to sleep and the SOBs at Intego tech support wouldnt respond. I finally got a refund directly through MasterCard.
I would think the best option is to get a HARDWARE firewall routers are so cheap now.

a hardware firewall is always in front of my lan.
i believe in (at least) double security lines....one firewall protecting my lan from the outside world and on each computer a firewall (and ids etc) to protect it against those people who are good enough to get over the first firewall.....
