Chris, congrats on the new edition of your iPod book.
Still have my copy. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
I'll try to get out to the PA Apple Store -- it's my last week here in the Central Coast.
Took my last final this morning. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

PA? For a second there, I thought Chris was coming to my home state of Pennsylvania. Too bad. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Anyway, I don't really use my iPod earbuds -- personally, I find them too big for long periods of use -- but when I do put them to work, I keep them from getting tangled by wrapping them around the belt-clip on the iPod's case. It's not perfect, but it'll do in a pinch.
Of course, I only use the headphones once in a while anyway, so it isn't an issue. Personally, I find the in-your-ear headphones uncomfortable; I like the traditional style headphones better.

I truly hate the bud headphones.
My ears are irritated by them, especially at the high volumes I enjoy my rap music at.
Instead I bought the Bose Tri-Port headphones for $150.
They have no batteries, correct for environment volume, and have terrific bass.
In any case, I'll see you around 7:00, Chris.
I get to catch the O'Reilly Factor -- alright!

These things are made by such outfits as ZipLinq, Macally, and Proporta. I can't vouch for the audio quality of these headphones, but I'm pretty confident that they're far less likely than what you're using now to end up as a knotted web in your pocket or purse.

The audio quality of the models I've heard (MacAlly and ZipLinq) leaves a lot to be desired, but these products do work as advertised in terms of controlling cable clutter. One of these days the better headphone manufacturers are going to realize that people who care about sound quality also suffer from tangled cables /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I can't believe nobody has posted about this yet. Bill Palmer, over at the iPod Garage has written a review of SmartWrap, "a cord manager for headphone cables." They cost US$5.00 and come in 9 colors.
