Hi all,
Is anyone playing America's Army, and if so, what are your impressions?
Just upgraded to a 17" PowerBook and am considering downloading and trying but I wanted to get any impressions of gameplay, graphics etc.
Thanks,

Gregg

Based on the same engine that is used in Unreal Tournament 2003 and 2004, America's Army looks impressive. It's very tough, and you will need to play online, because it's very team-focused. I took a look at it last November -- that was the game in an earlier incarnation, so a bit has changed since then, but it'll still give you the basic idea. And hey, you can't beat the price.
I can't imagine trying to play with a trackpad, though -- may I presume you are using an external keyboard and mouse like I do with my PowerBook?

Peter,
Thanks for the reply. I have used the game on the PC side, and will download and try on the Mac. My hope is that the graphics are similar to what I would experience on the PC.

Depends on how your Mac compares in terms of hardware, but yeah, on a well-equipped system it's very comparable.

Should be just fine. Get yourself a multi-button mouse if you don't already have one, though.

Maybe I'm just in a pissy mood tonight, but, I've got to say this forum is getting stale and boring. WTF! spending three thousand dollars for a computer doesn't get your game to play well seems ludicrous. It would be nice to see discussions about strategy, hints, tactics, etc instead of constant harping about how my computer won't play at optimal frame rate and the sound is choppy, etc. Not only are Macs NOT gaming machines, Mac users are not true gamers! Let the bullets fly.... /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Thanks for you invaluable input Happymac, but where did anyone complain about quality of gaming and framerate in this post? All I did was ask for others experiences with America's Army before deciding to download a very large application.
If you want to discuss strategy, I suggest you open a thread on the topic.

Hi
I started to play America's Army few days ago...The graphics are really amazing (for a free game). But it doesn't look like on a pc. Take a look on my system...On a similar PC (Desktop) it looks just better...I don't know why. But anyway I think it's a pretty cool game...But you'll have to get a mouse with wheel and 2 buttons. By the way, why does apple just build this stupid one button wireless mouse. Cause the mouse i'm using just doesn't fit to my PB /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif
Have fun while playing...
