Copying the iDVD folder will work fine. I just did this a couple of weeks ago with my new dual gig Quicksilver when I completely reformatted the drive. Although I had an easier time of it because of my FireWire HD. Drag and drop will work fine. (Run the updater though.)
Just for clarification, the iDVD app by itself is only 774 mb and the tutorial folder is another 400 or so.

Aside - Hey d00d, why not make this part of the OS X FAQ?

Apple does not have any other way of putting iDVD back on your computer (unless you want to spend $19.95 for the stand alone program)
You may be able to get the program from the 6 restore disks, but Apple was not able to walk me through this.
Again, UPDATE--don't do a clean install.

1) Make a folder on your desktop. Doesn't matter what you name it.
2) Put the first System Restore disk in. Open the Configuration folder. There should be a .dmg file in there (name escapes me, but it is the only one).
3) Drag that .dmg file to the folder on the desktop. Do this for each disk. This will take a bit, as each file is huge (+500MB).
4) When you have all the disks done, open Disk Copy and mount the first disk. This will allow you to see all the applications.
5) Simply drag iDVD out and put it on your hard drive. images/icons/smile.gif
Hope this works -
