itunes music to ipod

i am trying to put music from itunes onto my ipod manually but can not figure out how to. Old music I have downloaded can be placed onto my ipod by just dragging it to the ipod but things I have just downloaded will not add to the ipod.please advise!

If the music is already in iTunes, then all you need do is connect the iPod, undo the auto-sync function in the iPod Prefs (iPod icon - bottom right of iTunes display) and create a playlist. Add all the songs you want to listen to on the iPod to that playlist, then drag the playlist to the iPod, and I believe that's all there is to it.
