Yup, that's right. The center button is once again a physical, "clickable" button, but the scroll wheel is touch sensitive.

Great pics! I gave my 1st gen iPod to my sister a few months back (her first iPod now...), and I've been jonesing for the new 4th gen model. I'll probably go with the 20GB model as it's the same price point as my old 1st gen 5GB model. Nice to hear that the 4th gens are working well!

My boyfriend placed his order for a 40GB iPod one week before Apple announced the new ones. Not only did Apple (on their own) switch his order to the newer model, but they refunded the difference in price! He also received the remote and the earbuds and is quite pleased with the whole transaction. Sigh I just have a hard time letting my 1st generation iPod go!

I have to add that the turnaround time has been amazing...I ordered on Monday WITH engraving on the back, I got an e-mail thursday saying it was shipping, I received it yesterday. Engraving plus shipping in one week. Good stuff, Apple.
I have never had an iPOD problem like that (to the posting above)...and I have had 1st gen, 3rd gen, and now 4th gen. I do keep my batteries always "topped off" when not in use.

Hi
I thought I'd keep this to one thread instead of creating a new one. I just got my 20GB (4G, of course) this morning and...
Appearance: Flawless...No scuffs, scratches, discoloration, dents, or anything. Of course, it looks pretty much the same as the other iPods in general design. The grey clickwheel is nice and isn't as possibly gaudy as I thought could happen.
Battery: Haven't tested it but just read MacWorld's review and you should be fine.
Screen: Definitely a noticeable blue over my 3G, you can't not notice it. Otherwise, seems the same as my 3G.
Controls: Takes a bit of getting used to navigating with mechanical controls again but it definitely has its perks over the 3G and I'm beginning to really take heart to it. With it all in one place, the initial glance made it seem smaller to me but that was all in my head. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Size: Looks smaller to me but that's an illusion (that I like). Probably because I've been without an iPod for probably almost a month now. Which wasn't Apple's fault at all. Otherwise, the 1mm doesn't make a difference to me and it's practically the same size as my 3G.
Capacity: The extra 5GB is nice.
Features: Nice. I didn't need the shuffle up front and the Music menu isn't necessary as was explained by MacWorld, I think, that browse is technically more correct. Though, I especially like Apple getting detailed again enough to provide a feature from it's little brother like pausing the music when headphones are disconnected during play. Glad my remote still works just dandy with it.
Stability: Playing it for a few hours now and I'm pretty random (not shuffle /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif) about how I listen to music and not even a skip or stutter. Great!
Price: Even though a case would've been great, it is a very fine price.
Overall: I give it four and a half stars.

Hey Cheetah,
Congrats on your new iPod. I have loved the scroll wheel on my mini. Once you get used to it you will love it. What made you upgrade? I though I was keeping you in line in regards to buying every Apple product introduced. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Hi
How are the AA meetings going? /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif To be completely honest, I wouldn't have actually upgraded (everybody always wants, of course) but my younger brother really wanted an iPod and I thought it a convenient time because of an easy and generous sale of mine.
I sold my 15GB (3G) for $187 with dock, cables, headphones (slightly blown /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif Only noticeable at high levels) but I kept the remote. I'm much more careful with my new headphones (and ears), for now. Only a few times I got angry enough to blast my brains out with music. Music helps me keep my sanity within arms reach.
Holding out for the 2.0GHz PowerBook (G5?) is really difficult. My PowerBook is great but lately I've been keeping about 5 apps open all the time and manipulating 100sMB image files in Photoshop for flyers, etc and with everything going on my 1GB RAM limit is starting to actually show a peak. Oh well, it will be a much greater feeling the longer I wait. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

i was gonna make my own opinion of the 4g today, but macheeta has done it for me!!
everything he says. I sold my 3g one to a mate and got the 4g yesterday. It does seem smaller, but only by 1mm thinkness. So in the hand it feels flatter. It fits in the dock but isnt secure.....but overall I prefer the clickwhhel and the fact it doesnt trigger when you sneeze! As for the battery, ill let you know. I gotta 15 hour flight sunday morning so if the inflight film is naff........
i just wish it was the size of them mini

okay, so i have the new 20 gig 4G
ive posted about this before but am still a bit unsure...
yesterday i charged my ipod up all the way, then put it on shuffle and let it alone to see how long it would last. no eq, no sound check...
it drained in about 6.5 hours...
is this normal? i thought it was supposed to be around 12...
also, when i tried plugging into my friends computer to get his music library, there was a 'lock' icon on the itunes screen for my ipod and i couldn't get any of his and he couldn't get mine. a msg came up saying my ipod is mounted to my computer, do i want to unmount and lose everything? whats with that...
someone please help

to answer the second question, the ipod is not a file-sharing device. by default, it is set to sync with your itunes library when you plug it in. but "synchronize" is really the wrong word here... it's a one-way operation. songs can be copied from itunes to the ipod, but not the other way around. thus, when you plug it into a friend's computer, it warns you that it's going to erase the ipod songs that aren't in your friend's itunes library in order to "synchronize" with his/her library.
that said, there are freeware/shareware utilities that exist for extracting music from the ipod. search versiontracker.com for "ipod".
