My Address Book in Panther is continually duplicating addresses. Almost every time I open it up there are new duplicates. What am I doing wrong?
Another quirk: an email address which I removed long ago from the Address Book keeps returning when I start typing in his name in Mail. Why is this happening and how do I get rid of it???
Thanks for anybody's help!

for the first problem, you could try removing the addressbook preferences. go to users > (you) > library > preferences, and move the file com.apple.AddressBook.plist to the desktop. logout, log back in, and try again. any luck?
for the second quirk, what's happening is that mail remembers people with whom you've corresponded. to get rid of that address, go to mail. under the windows menu, choose "previous recipients." find the email address you want to remove, and click "remove from list."

Thanks. That took care of both problems!
