Hi -
I recently discovered the wonders of sharing a printer on my Airport network. I have a G4 Dual Processor 533 connected directly to the Airport base, and a 700 Mhz. iBook G3 using an Airport card. The desktop is hooked up to an Epson Stylus COLOR 777... I turned on Printer Sharing on the Desktop and tested it a couple of days ago and it worked like a charm...
Today it no longer works. Word, upon pressing the print button, tells me that "Word cannot print due to a problem with the current printer. Make sure you have a printer selected in Print Center. You may need to print again or adjust your printer settings."
Other points worth mentioning:
- The printer will work if activated from the desktop.
- I've tried this with the firewalls turned on and off, although Printer Sharing is always activated regardless.
- The Printer appears on the iBook's Printer List and (is this normal?) its "In Menu" checkbox is greyed out and has no checkmark in it.
- Both computers run OSX 10.3.4
- I rebooted the desktop
- my roommate has his own iBook connected to the Airport using an airport card, as well...
Thanks so much!

I have a similar setup and just upgraded to Panther. Under Jaguar it seemed like sometimes Mac OS would forget some checkmarks. The Missing Manual, Panther Edition seems to say that you have to turn on printer sharing via the Print & Fax page of System Preferences rather than the Sharing page, although when I went back to the Sharing page I think the checkmark for printer sharing had reappeared. Then when you have that magic connection completed, you should have the option of Shared Printers in the list of printers to the right of "Printer:" (To save paper I hit on the idea of creating a document with only a period on the page. Its inconspicious enough that I can use that sheet of paper again.)

Hey, thanks for the reply.
I just "fixed" my problem by simply choosing "Rendezvous" printers instead of "shared" printers... Now both the desktop and laptop communicate with the printer perfectly. Is this the way it should be anyway?
Thanks!
