I've recently discovered the expose feature in OSX. After toying with it, I noticed that while browsing online or offline in Netscape 7.1, that a "hidden" window appears. If I click on it, the window will disappear. This window appears no matter which user is logged into my Mac. I'm concerned that this may be spyware. I've placed a picture at my personal URL http://www.morsa.com/hidden.jpg ...what's this "hidden" window all about? And why can't I interact with it?
God, please tell me it's just some underlying Unix or Gecko device merely managing the application. I can't seem to find any hidden cdevs or files in my directory. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong place.
Curiously Concerned,
Jason

It's not spyware; it's a 'feature' of Mozilla, Netscape, and Firefox on the Mac...

Ok, it's a feature of Mozilla based browsers. However, that really doesn't tell those of us that are ignorant of this feature much. Just what is it?

It's not so much a feature as a side effect of the way in which Mozilla was implemented. In most OS's other than Macs, a running application has a window open associated with it. With Macs, you may have an application running with no window active. Because the designers of Mozilla assumed the presence of an open window, they needed a workaround for Macs. This workaround is this "hidden" window, which in earlier versions of Mozilla was actually visible (Rob, you must remember that window). They figured out how to make it almost completely hidden from your view, but now Expose can expose it. Like they said in the Wizard of Oz, pay no attention to the window [man] behind the curtain.
