I'm moving away to college in a week and have decided to take my DVD collection (that I OWN) with me. Without the physical DVDs, of course--who has room for a wack of DVDs when they're trying to pack clothing, bedding, etc?! I have used a clever little program called DVDBackup to copy the VideoTS folders from my DVDs. They work great; I open DVD Player and open the VideoTS folder of the movie I want to watch.
I know DVD Player is scriptable. What I would love is to write an applescript that enables me to just double-click a script and have DVD Player start playing the movie of my choice in full screen.
Can anyone help me?

Given that a typical movie is about 4G in size, and your notebook probably has a no larger than 40G hard-drive, how many movies are you planning on keeping on it? May I suggest a subscription to Netflix? (no, I don't work for them). /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif

sorry for the omission-- I don't have a notebook, I have an 80-gig, 17" iMac. I don't have a subscription to Netflix (it's Zip in Canada) because I really just watch the same movies over and over and over. (If you must know, it's Love and Basketball, Beauty and the Beast, the Mighty Ducks movies, The Red Violin, and a few others.)
I really just want to be able to doubleclick an applescript and have my movies open... there must be some AS whizzes out here who know how to accomplish this!

Not sure how all this relates to gaming, but, since we're on the subject....
May I suggest buying a portable DVD player? They can be had for less than $100 and work quite well. Would also save your ROM drive motor. Also, I recall some of my fondest memories in college were 'movie nights' on campus. There must be something similar where you're going. Expand your horizons. To answer your question, did you try Apple support? Good luck. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Aha! A really informative forum I didn't find! Thank you! Their solution is pretty close. But, like the poster of the original question, I don't want a dialog, and I get one (that does work, if I click through to find the VIDEOTS folder I want) even when I put the last script given as an application in the same folder that houses my VIDEOTS folder of choice. I can see in the script that it's supposed to see the VIDEO_TS folder, but it doesn't!
As an aside, I'm a college student--an international one, I can't even work while I'm at school. I can't afford a portable DVD player! I've had my iMac for two years; it has a 17" screen--bigger than my TV. It would be a nice idea if it were practical. I'm just trying to make using what I have easy and fun. I posted this question here because I wasn't sure where else to put it (Operating systems was my second choice).
