back up the folder users > (you) > library > mail. the mbox files contain the actual email messages, but it's probably easiest to just back up the whole folder.

Believe it or not I do not have a mail folder under alg/library visible when I click on Mac HD.
I do however have it if I go to tty and home/library/mail so what is wrong with my istallation?

i think maybe you're talking about two different library folders. my root level library folder (the first library folder you see when you double click your hard drive icon) doesn't have a mail folder, either. the root level library folder is separate and different from the library folder inside your home folder. the root level library contains settings and information that apply to all users. (fonts in root/library/fonts are available to everyone, for instance.) your home library contains information that is only available to you. (fonts in root/users/(you)/library/fonts are only available to you.) thus your email resides in the "mail" box of your home library folder.

I know you think that I am lost but trust me I open Mac HD and in the left sidebar I click on alg (which has a house icon beside it The top of the window says alg (BTW that is me) in that folder I have Desktop, Documents, Library, Movies, Music, Pictures, Public, Sites, Downloads (I added this one.). When I click on Library I have six folders in this window. I have Preferences, Printers, Safari, Scripts, Sounds and Logs.
If this is not my home dir. then you are right I am lost and do not know how to get to my home dir.

sorry, guess i was wrong. if you're using mail, and it's not storing your email in users > (you) > library > mail, then i have no idea where it is. bizarre. you might try searching the hard drive for files with "mbox" extensions.

Hi
SIx folders? That's not right. I have 33. Now, that's a bit more than the average but yours should have at least folders named Application Support, Keychains, Printers, Receipts, Sounds, Audio, Caches, Documentation, and others.
