Every time I read classified ads and I hit the link to email somebody the "mac.com" account pops up, but I do not use that account to send emails, I use my hotmail account.

how can I set up my computer to get my hotmail account to pop up everytime I hit a email link instead the mac.com one?

If anybody can walk me through it will be highly appreciated.

Thanks

M.

1. Open System Preferences
2. Select the Internet pane.
3. Click on the E-mail tab.
4. Deselect "Use .Mac Email account".
5. Enter the information for the account that you want to use in the appropriate boxes.
6. Quit System Preferences

Your computer should now use the other account to send out mail.

Thanks, but I am sorry to say this: it does not work.
There is nothing that says:
"4. Deselect "Use .Mac Email account".

There is something similar that says "use your iTools email account, but the box was UNchecked already.

What do I have to write in:

Incoming Mail Server?
and
Outgoing Mail Server? if I am using www.hotmail.com???

Thanks for helping the technologicaly challeneged boy. images/icons/wink.gif

thanks

Marcel,

if you use Hotmail and you have Microsoft Entourage installed (by any chance), I dunno if this works in Microsoft Outlook for Mac as well (and Outlook Express is only available for versions < OS X), go to "tools", "accounts" --> click "new" - enter your name and when it asks for your email address give your hotmail adress - unlike when adding a new "normal" email account it will now ask you to give your hotmail member-name and password, you might have to change your hotmail password to comply with entourage standards (password must be between 8-16 characters) - click finish - now go to "system preferences" - "internet" - "email" and set your default email program to "entourage"

okay -

let's get this straight - how's macosx supposed to know you use "replacebyyourwebmailprovider" to read & send email? what do ask from an operating system - to take a guess which webmail you use, log-in with some username and password, open a new message and add the link you just wanted to send ???

copy the link go to hotmail, log in, past the link and feel free to mail away...

You can't use mailto: links with web mail accounts. No way no how, unless you're using Entourage for Hotmail. The web browser can't map that link to a web page, it can only be sent to an application. I suppose one could write an app to do this, but I've never seen it done.
