I thought I would never get a coaster by getting reputable media like Verbatim by MCC & Japan made Panasonic. I even did a disc image burn of the movie that I ripped using MTR 1st and tested it, then used the copy tab to burn the disc image in dvd-rw and after everything works, tried it on a Verbatim DVD-r and I get the error message
Drive reported an error:
Sense key = Medium Error, Sense code = oxoc, write error
Reboot and tried the panasonic and it has the same error. Erased and reburn the dvd-rw and it worked. Tried on another DVD-R and again same error. Even tried dvd-rw to dvd-r copy and have the same problem. Have used this external TDK drive for about a month with no problem. Any ideas why this problem is cropping up.

Any Toast expert out there? Let me also list my record setting to see if I need to change them. The selected ones are;
Write disc
Verify data
audio write mode: DAO
Display recorder settings before writing

Is this the first time this media is giving you issues? Is this a newly purchased lot of disks, If so, bring them back for an exchange. If you've had successful burns with this lot before, skip ahead a few disks in the package & try again. DVD media is very particular... while odds are in your favor by choosing a brand name there are no garantees. Other wise try slowing the burn speed (if you can).

Are you saying if my media burns at 4x speed, I should try lowering it down to say 3x?

given all the expensive coasters, i'd try burning at 1x rather than stepping from 4x to 3x to 2x and hoping one of those would work.

I have found out by experience that varying burn speed based on media/burner pairing yields best success rate. e.g. When I use Memorex on my TDK burner I can burn @ 4x (media rated speed), whereas on Samsung burner I have to slow it down to 1x (same media). I have had reliable 4x burn speed using TDK, Fuji, and Mitsui with all the 4 types of burners I use (TDK, Samsung, Pioneer (Apple), and LiteOn). I have had some problems with Memorex, Sony, and HP media requiring slowing down to 2x or 1x to maintain consistent burn success.
