I have looked at Sonnets site and am wondering how worth while is it to upgrade a 9600/233 to a Cresendo G4/700MHz. I looked but was unable to tell what bus speed is the 9600/233.
AT work we have a 9600/233 that is primarily used to run Media 100 software currently it has 7 scsi drives on it and it takes around 5 minutes just to boot.
I work at a University and budget money is very tight. If it makes sense I might get approval for the G4/700MHz @ &269.99 and not get approval for the G4/800MHz @ $349.99.
Interesed in your thoughts.

Well I just finished installing Panther on an 8600/250. I have the Sonnet Tempo Trio and the Sonnet G4-700 and it is working sweet. I can now record audio using my Motu 828 mk2 firewire audio interface. The 8600 is so much quieter than my dual gig mdd. Our computers are similar and I would say it is very worthwhile - new life for a great machine. My 8600 has a 50 mhz buss - yours may only be 40 - not sure.
Did you check Macupdates for that program that lists all macs and their specs? I wish I could remember its name. Ah - MacTracker 3.0 - available for 9.x or X.x
Here's a link for the X version:

The bus speed depends on the speed of the CPU; it can vary from 40 to 50MHz due to how the bus can be multiplied to match the speed of the CPU. For example, a 120 8500 has a 40MHz bus; you can take the same machine and put a 150 into it and the bus will change to 50 MHz.
