Mount Digital Camera to Desktop

If you have a CF card reader, why would you even want to screw around connecting a camera. The reader is faster, no messy cables, no battery issues.
I leave my (firewire) reader permanently connected to my Powermac, and a PCMCIA/CF card adapter permanently in my laptop.

Have the same problem with my Canon G5 and I just look over at Canon site and fond that there is a Mac Drivers Download. I'm at work now but I will try it at home tonigt.

I have this same problem with a Kodak EasyShare DX7630 running on Mac OS X 10.3.9.
The only way I can get videos off this camera is to load the Kodak software. On Windows XP, the camera mounts within Explorer where I can grab pictures and videos easily off the camera. Why can't I do this on Mac OS X. I remember on Mac 7.5 that I could do it with an Apple camera.
Any ideas?

My 20D doesn't mount to the desktop but to the best of my knowledge it's not supposed to, maybe it's the same with your particular model. iPhoto launches and imports the images, after which I simply turn off the camera and disconnect as per the instructions. I mostly use a Firewire card reader anyway, that mounts fine.

Hi -Nelson,
Many folks would rather have Image Capture launch when snagging photos from the camera so they can select which ones vs all the pixs. I'm pretty sure the camera should mount on the desktop when working properly. Some members forget they can launch Image Capture->Preferences->select->'Launch Image Capture' ->When a camera is connected: Open: Image Capture, or an other application...in the drop-down menu. Not sure this helped the original poster at all with his mounting snag. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I guess since this thread was brought back from the dead, I'll chime in. As far as I know, Canon digital cameras do not mount on the desktop as "removable media". It's something that Canon does to prevent the card from mounting. As mentioned above, Image Capture and iPhoto work fine.
Maybe Kodak does the same with their cameras.
I do know that Sony camera do mount, although I've read where some of the newer ones do not. My Sony is from 2002, and it does indeed mount.

Glad Image Capture works for ya -Danny. I use it several times a week, and then after a little Dr.'ing up allow iPhoto to have them. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif Like -ft mentioned, it seems some cameras just plain 'don't' mount, but I can also verify the older Sony's do mount /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
