I'm really not this stupid, but I'll go ahead and ask it anyway.
Are there any Dell brand printers compatible with Macs?
I ask this because my brother has a NEW (still in the box) Dell brand printer that he does not need. Before he lists it on eBay to sell, he wondered if our Mom could use it with her eMac (she doesn't have a printer). I told him I doubted seriously if anything Dell would be compatible with anything Mac, even though he said there was nothing on the outside of the printer's box indicating particular platform compatibility.
Any ideas? Might it possibly be compatible?

It's very possible it is compatible, as long as it has USB. Computer manufacturers rarely make their own printers (HP being an exception) -- they're usually just rebranded printers from other companies.
What's the model of this printer?
I'm sure if you can figure out what the printer's based on (I think Dell bases off of Lexmark), you can get a driver that will work. But we need more information from you first.

Looks like a lexmark printer to me... If this is any indication; the after market ink jet cartridge sites lump Dell's J740 in the same group as Lexmark Z23 and a bunch of other Lexmak Z's & X's. If it's a free printer (absolutely free- no strings attached) )& you have a bunch of spare time, it might be worth messing with...just to be able to say "I did it!"
