My father uses that keyboard to this day on his upgraded 7600 frankenstein machine. It was (and is) an excellent keyboard.

Since my experince is limited and I am a self taught typist I too like the ergonomic style keyboard. However I am using a logitech elite. WHat I am wondering is if there is a ergonomic style keybaord out there that supports all of the Mac startup commands. Like cd startup and PRAM and NVRAM the logitech does not even though they say they are designed to work on a Mac.

Don,
One benefit of that NumLock light on for Windows but off for Mac is that it tells you what kind of computer you're plugged into. Not as silly as it sounds. I have one of these keyboards plugged into a KVM switch that's attached to a Mac and PC. In the past, when my monitor went to sleep, I had to try to recall which computer I'd switched to. With the Matias keyboard all I have to do is glance at the NumLock key. If the light is on, I'm switched to the PC. Light off, the Mac.

Ah, the joys of a good keyboard. I still have my Apple Extended II keyboard lying around my house somewhere. I just can't get rid of it.
I'm still trying to decide whether it was as good as my PowerBook 1400's keyboard. The keyboard on that thing was to die for. I wish I could rip it out and use it on a modern day Mac.

It is just so nice to see quality recognized :-)
I went down to the store below my house and tried out seven different keyboards including Logitech, Macally, Microsoft, and others. None of them held a candle to the Tactile Pro and it took less than 15 seconds to tell my fingers would never get tired on this baby, like they always do on the latest Apple Pro keyboards. If you type for a living, there is simply nothing else that compares.
By the way, you forgot the Option and Shift-Option key equivalents being printed on the keys -- that has saved me a few trips to Key Caps already ;-)

Hey, that's right. I noticed that in the web blurb. Great feature and it will help my wife out too. She's always asking me how to make some character or another, and this 'board will tell her. Great!

I'm a professional writer so obviously keyboards are pretty important to me. I got a Tactile Pro to plug into my iBook when it's mounted on my iCurve. Ditto what everyone's said: best keyboard ever, a bit clattery, and I wish they made one that was ergonomically curved and split, although I've felt no wrist twinges since I started using it. Did anyone mention that the keys also indicate what character appears when you hold down the option key and press that key? No more keycaps needed. In sum: wonderful!

Did you happen to read the two posts just above yours?

The Microsoft Natural Keyboard supports all these key functions on the Mac. They have a driver for Mac OS X that you can download from their web site. That's all I use.

The thing I like most about the Tactile Pro -- outside of the response -- is the labeling of each key with its option and option-shift value as well. Really useful for finding those tricky symbols, international characters and such whose vulcan nerve-pinch sequence I haven't memorized.

As much as a good keyboard would be nice, I will never get Matias my money, due to its misuse of patents, cf. the uControl TWERQ feature.

It arrived yesterday, and Mo's "Happy as a clam!" (Where did that saying come from, anyway?) She really likes it, even with its clatter. Her first comment was, "Wow, a full-sized keyboard." Interestingly, she sees no use AT ALL for the extra markings on the keys -- which we here seem to think is such a great idea. She is a paralegal and the only symbol she's looking for is a "correct" section symbol. I pointed out Option-6 "", but she said that's only about half of what she's talking about. (?) Anyone know of a more "elaborate" section symbol?

[I see the has disappeared above. Wonder why?]
Sorry to resurrect this blog item, but I have a question for Chris or Dan or anyone else who uses this Tactile Pro keyboard regularly. Since installing it, the startup chime on the iMac has gone away. There doesn't appear to be a problem with the machine, and sound is normal otherwise. I ran DW and TTP on it yesterday and all was normal (and the chime sounded on restart from the eDrive, but not since). Any ideas, and could this have anything to do with the keyboard?
