At the risk of giving you one of those "Huh, that doesn't happen to me" answers, I have to say, "Huh, that doesn't happen to me." I've got the keyboard plugged directly into the back of my Power Mac and, on restart, I hear the usual chime. I hear it through attached computer speakers, however.
Have you tried plugging in the old keyboard to see if the problem remains?

<He says with much embarrassment> False alarm. I just checked Mo's sound setting, and the volume is all the way down. Off apparently, although I wasn't aware that worked on the chime. Apparently so, since the iMac uses external speakers. I just restarted it after resetting the volume and all's well. Still strange that I heard the chime yesterday when I did those tests though, because I didn't change the volume settings then.

P.S. - What's wrong with "Huh, that doesn't happen to me"? That's one of my favorite responses /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
