This could be the stupidest question ever on this forum. How is it possible to tell if I have everything configured correctly to get the best speed possible from the net?

Thanks Grant. The speed test I am aware of, its the setting within the computer that Im asking about really. (my fault)
I would guess that the mac is set up for the best configuration already. Not being sure about this I thought I would ask.
Again, I realize this is something I should know. sorry.

Alot of things can factor into "internet" speed, or at least your perception of it.....
1) Your ISP and the quality of their systems/equipment
2) Your connection method, ie dial-up, DSL, cable, satellite ect
3) Your equipment, software and configurations of each
4) Congestion/traffic loads in the backbone areas
If you are on broadband, there are several utilities that allow you to adjust the TCP/IP and MTU parameters for best possible speeds, some use a GUI, and others are command lines used in Terminal
check versiontracker for them /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Just adding a byte. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif ..running cable here on a G4 and an 8500/120 AV (604 CPU) is a big difference. The older 8500 just can't read the data as fast as it comes in so surfing sites is much, much slower. Be happy you've got a Mac that is up to par. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
