Hi,
At home, we have wireless internet acces. My powerbook G4 often has trouble connecting to the internet. It registers the network, I also get an IP-adress, but my internet browser (normally I use safari) can somehow not connect to the internet. I've checked everything I can think of, nothing helped. The funny thing is, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. My boyfriend has a pc-laptop, and he has never had any problems, so the network works just fine... Can anyone help me to sove this problem? It is quite annoying and I am gettig desperate!
Thanx, Myrke

First are you using an airport card or a third party card?
Also you are using a non apple base station right?
Second are you sure you have connected to the network and entered the correct password?
Last are you sure there isn't some sort of proxy on your network?
I think I can help if you give me a little more info
Matt

Hi Matt,
I am using the airport card that was already in my Powerbook, but I do use a non Apple base station. I am sure I am connected to the network, at least as far as I can see: My airport detects the network, and when I look under system Preferences/network, I can see it gives me an IP-Adress...
Also, I checked about the proxy server on out network, and there is none...

You may want to try dumping your cache and/or resetting Safari (both under the Safari menu). you could also try downloading Camino or Firefox and see if they connect and allow you to browse. If so, it may be a Safari problem. Good luck!

I think I figured out what the problem could be: I recently installed Norton Security (including firewall). But our wireless network has a firewall of its own as well. When I turn my firewall (Norton) of, and I tried the network setup assistent to set up my network, I could connect to the internet. Could these two firewalls give the problem? I did have it before as well...

I am not sure if that could be your problem or not. However, people around these forums seem to have had more problems than not with Norton products. If you would like to run both a hardware and a software firewall, I recommend trashing Norton's and using OS X's built in firewall. From what I understand, it is industrial strength and very easy to use. Apple (menu) > Systems Preferences > Sharing > Firewall (tab). Maybe try removing Norton's and see if it clears up your problem.
