i had this in the other battery post but i didnt get any responces.
i just purchased the 4 gen 20g ipod. i encode at 160kbs aac and currently use the stock headphones. the volume is set around 50% max.
i am only get about 5hrs out of a full charge.
i know that the higher bit rate will decrease battery life but i didnt think it would reduce it by +50% of the advertised amount.
i have followed the instructions from apple's website on how to max battery life to no avail.
any suggestions on methods to increase batt life or do i have a bad battery?
thanks for your imput

Hi
I agree with Stevo. I have my iPod set to shuffle a playlist for my computer shop every day and it lasts at least the entire work day. Which, weekdays is at least 9 hours (9A.M. - 6P.M. Central US) and sometimes even more than that. I even use the headphone jack through powered speakers set at about 3/4 volume. I know I could get the 12 hours out of mine, no problem.
I have iTMS songs and rip my CDs into 128kbps AAC.
