I just set up my DSL through SBC and got my DSL modem in today. After installing the filters on my phine lines I hooked up the line to my G4 iMac. It worked great. I had also ordered a Netgear WGR614v4 wireless router. The setup cd isn't Mac compatible, so being a novice Mac user and networker, I just plugged the the DSL into the router and then ran ethernet cable from one of the LAN ports to my Mac. It didn't work. My DSL modem is the SpeedStream 5100b, and according to Netgear's website some "tweeks" have to be done to get the router to word correctly. I followed the directions on the site which had me go to 192.168.0.1 to access the configuation menu of the modem. Then I changed the PPP settings from PPP to Bridged. In short, I followed the rest of the directions and nothing worked. I couldn't access the internet and after unattaching the router and hooking the modem back directly to the Mac, I can't even get online at all. I can't access the modem settings back without Safari timing out and using the reset button didn't help. To compound problems, now whenever I restart my Mac with a ethernet cable attached it the Mac start up sound comes on and is then interupted by loud static hiss from the speakers then it flashes a symbol of a globe for a couple of minutes then flashes a little finder symbol and a question mark and then after about three or four minutes boots into Panther. Sorry for the length of this post, but I am very frusterated as this is my first real Mac problem. Any help would be greatly appriciated.

Hello jcalys, i had this problem recently and i did the following to resolve it:
1. You need to configure you dsl to broadband sharing mode. The reason is this, your dsl modem is configured differently when you use it alone to surf the net, now that you want to use a router, you need to configure it to the sharing mode. Your dsl modem should have the instruction to configure it to broadband sharing mode. if not you can key in connectrouter on any browser and this will configure your dsl correctly.
2. Once this is done, you can connect your router to your dsl and follow the instruction of the router setup via the 192.168.0.1.
hope this will assist you.
