I enjoy using Chimera and find it far faster than any other browser. I understand that these are new builds and they may crash occasionally, but what i encounter with Chimera (and Mozilla) is that i cant restart the program. it just grinds the HD endlessly untill i force quit. I then have to download the latest build, reinstall, and re-import the bookmarks. at least with IE, you can just start it again.
is there an easier way to recover from such a crash? Im using 10.1.5
thanks
kevin

I'm not sure what to say, except that i've never had this problem, so it's not a universal chimera problem. Try deleting the Chimera folder located in /Users/you/Library/Application Support/Chimera

hm,

the 18102002 build seemed to be fairly stable, now i am using the 19102002 nightly build and it crashes on all occasions again. chimera is just what we all expect from a browser but restarting a browser 5-10 times a day is a bit too much.

The reason why you hear continuous grinding from your HD is because Chimera is in the process of cleaning out the cache. It may take a minute, it may take 3 minutes, but if you restart it next time after it crashes and you hear that grinding, just let it go. I've had this experience and it leads me to believe that the apps crashes have more to do with cache management. I don't know if I'm right, but it seems plausible.

I've been using nothing but Chimera for a couple of months now (before 0.5.0 I really wanted to use it, but it just wasn't ready.) I haven't had a problem with the current public release version or any nightly builds I've installed (in a special place on my HD I've set up for builds)--but early on I experienced some conflict I believe had something to do with an older Mozilla preference file. I trashed my Mozilla prefs and since then it has been just fine. It might not help you much, but there it is: if you have Mozilla on your system, sometimes Mozilla and Chimera don't play well together.

The feature I'm really looking forward to is being able to specify a minimun font size. Lacking that, the new font size toolbar buttons in the nightly builds are very handy.

Ron Goodman: you can specify a minimum font size. Simple create a plain text file and paste the following lines into it:
userpref("font.minimum-size.x-western", 14);
user
pref("font.minimum-size.hi-IN", 14);
userpref("font.minimum-size.ja", 14);
user
pref("font.minimum-size.ko", 14);
userpref("font.minimum-size.tr", 14);
user
pref("font.minimum-size.x-baltic", 14);
userpref("font.minimum-size.x-central-euro", 14);
user
pref("font.minimum-size.x-unicode", 14);
userpref("font.minimum-size.x-user-def", 14);
user
pref("font.minimum-size.x-western", 14);
userpref("font.minimum-size.zh-CN", 14);
user
pref("font.minimum-size.zh-TW", 14);
userpref("font.name.monospace.x-western", "Monaco");
user
pref("font.name.serif.x-western", "Arial");
userpref("font.size.variable.x-western", 15);
user
pref("browser.display.screenresolution", 96);
user
pref("capability.policy.default.window.onunload", "noAccess");

Name it user.js and put it in: /Users/you/Library/Application Support/Chimera/Profiles/Default/weirdly named folder/

You can change 14 to any font size, and it will be the minimum allowed size.

Thanks all for your feedback. Monkey is right, if one waits long enough, it will eventually start working again. Though it did take a very long time- around 5 minutes.

Hi Kevin,

I only have to wait about 10 seconds after I restart Chimera (after a crash). I'm surprised it's taking that long on yours.
