Hello all and thank you for reading my post.
My iBook is now shut down after 3 months of putting it to sleep and restarts, it is now off. I seem to have accidentally shut it down. I've tried to avoid shut down because the power button had failed, I learned this while my iBook was on, I pressed the power button and got no reaction (usually a menu appears and asks if I'd like to shutdown/restart/sleep/cancel right?)
Well that menu decided to not appear for sometime now. Why didn't I get it to apple care? My wife refused to submit it to apple care cuz she was/is under deadline pressure and the iBook (being the only 'puter in our apartment) was going to save us. Well silly me, I didnt back up the info for over 2 weeks now and she has reached a pivotal point in her writing, not to mention the complexities that have been outlined within her monolithic saga, of which, of course, lie within our iBook's innards... plus homework.
Ahem...
Now for the question: How can I extract a few files from the hard disk without voiding my warranty and or powering up my iBook?
Sub-Question: How can I start my laptop? I'll try anything at this point, USB combinations, dancing barefoot with it, whatever. Any ideas on how to jumpstart this iBook would be VERY appreciated.
On the power issue: I remember once when we started having these power button issues she, my wife, would (ahem) fondle the little button and soon after it started up, which is why I didn't see it as a problem sooner.
Keep in mind: I am in Japan, the Apple Store in Ginza/Tokyo, aka the only Genius Bar in the whole friggin country, is about 8 hours away... by bullet train!
Please help, for a solution I shall mentally shower riches on you, beyond your wildest imagination, and dare I say it, maybe a parade!
