DVD player stopped working mid-movie

I was watching a movie with apple's DVD player on my 500 MHz iBook running 10.2.8, and I stopped it, put the computer to sleep and woke it back up after dinner. When I restarted the movie, the screen had a slight greenish hue and I could only hear the sound, not see the movie. I tried another movie and got the same thing. After that I restarted the computer and tried it again. I also tried opening a DVD media file that I had on my computer from my last airplane trip. That also failed. It seems to me that it must be something wrong with DVD player but I would like any suggestions as to how I could get this working.
