I recently bought a Powerbook 1.5 GhZ G4 with OS X Panther. A friend of mine rendered with Adobe Premiere (on a PC machine to add) around 30 Gigabytes of raw video from a DV Camera(2 files around 15 GB each) in an avi file and transferred them to his Maxtor drive. We then tried to transfer the files from the drive to my powerbook. It has the transfer window, but within copying around 1.27 GB or so, I get another window saying the system needs to be restarted. We tried hooking it up from the USB port, then the firewire port and the same result occured. What exactly is the problem with the transferring and if it is due to Powerbook limitations within the hardware, is there any way around it (seeing that the machine should be powerful enough to handle the transfer)? And does the fact that the raw video came from a PC and into a Mac has anything to do with it?

How much free space is available on the PowerBook's hard drive (there should be about twice as much as the amount of video you're transferring)? How much physical RAM does the PB have? Also, how about simply transferring the video directly from the camcorder? Your PB should recognize almost any model as long as it's DV.
