I have an old iMac G3 (slot-loading CD) with USB 1.1 running OS X 10.2.8. Can I use an iPod Mini with this? I realize that the requirements for the iPod says USB 2.0 or Firewire. I'm trying to avoid buying a new Mac just to get an iPod.
Thank you in advance.

If you format the iPod on a Windows PC, yes you can. If it's formatted for the Mac, nope, won't work.

Has anyone had any difficulty with using an ipod mini on windows machine with usb 1.1? im getting one as a present for someone and I dont think they have usb 2.0. So i installed my 4g iPod on my windows machine (nearly 4 years old) the other nite, hideously slow but it worked. Will the mini be a bit more angry at usb 1.1?

Why not include some kind of USB 2.0 interface (whether it be an adapter card or a PCMCIA version...)? The Adapter cards don't cost much - the PCMCIA will probably cost a bit more - Don't you want the person to be happy using the iPod mini?

I was thinking about that, but this person would have no idea how to install one, though I was looking at their computer and in the device manager I did see the words USB 2.0 so maybe theres one port there. But failing that I am thinking about getting them a usb 2.0 card and maybe installing it on xmas nite for them (its for xmas)
