My christmas present to myself this year will be entering into the unknown
OS-X, I have all the software cd's from the very beginning ~ 10.0.3 all the way up to Panther, however I'am going to stop at Jaguar, 'cause that's where my grandchildren are now. I haven't the foggiest idea what to do first. I have a bunch of books, but nothing for the new platform, I have been reading MacWorld magazine for years now so I'am familiar with what's ahead of me, but I will need help, & hopefully from you wonderful gurus out there.

I can surely understand the reticence, as she wants to be where her family is. Going all the way of course can perhaps energize the family to catch up, but with Tiger coming sometime "early" next year (probably not until May or June though) for them it mightn't be the greatest idea right now. Spending over a hundred bucks twice in six months is tough when you're talking about the same basic item.
As for getting help here ... just ask away. Nothing is too simple, and no one will give you any trouble for asking about something that's been asked a dozen or more times before. The "worst" they might do is link you to a thread that already contains your answer. Quotes because that's often the "best."
Finally, the difference between Jag and Panther. You don't see the difference? If not, you're not giving Panther an opportunity to do its thing. It's faster. It has more "stuff." If possible, it's even more stable. There were more than 150 enhancements over Jaguar, many unseen of course, but also many that you not only see but they actually work for you. Rendezvous is now flawless IMHO, Expos, Font Book, automatic defragmentation, etc.

Well, for anyone here to help you, we will need you to post your machine type/model, hardware & software specs, ie....what do you have now and where you want to go with this move.
we are here for ya /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
And I agree w/ the others, forget anything before Panther, unless you have a really ancient machine.......
