imac g4 800 running 10.3.6
right, i was importing a song into itunes, and everything went badly wrong. it claimed there wasnt enough space (a different, premiere related problem). anyway, so i restarted the computer, and itunes had completely wiped itself clean.
it reimported all my songs etc, but none of the ratings / playlists etc i had spent so long creating were there.
further investigation into the problem revealed the itunes 4 data file was now called itunes music library (damaged), and a fresh one had been created.
i experimented and deleted the new one, renaming the damaged one, and exactly the same happened again. so basically, all the info is in this damaged file. is there any way to recover this information and/or repair the damaged file?
any help is much appreciated, i really dont have the heart to redo all that work! thanks in advance

Do you have an iPod with those songs and playlists on it? If so you can use a utility such as iPodRip to recover them.

If you do get it fixed with either a utility or your own elbow, I found that it's a good idea to duplicate the iTunes Music Library file after you've made any significant changes to your library. That way if things get hosed up again (I had the same problem you did, so I feel your pain) you can just copy the copied library file back into place and it should be OK at least up to the date and time of the copy.
