I have a g3 500 ibook without a wireless card and an imac/usb printer/DSL cable modem at home (all hardwired). The original 802.11b cards are expensive $80 + on ebay. I've looked at the usb adapters (Belkin, etc.) but I also want some kind of a 802.11g router that will hook up to my imac via cables and have a usb port. I've also heard that there are issues between 802.11b devices running on an 802.11g routers.
Please help!
Thanks, Dave

I haven't heard of any 802.11b connecting to 802.11g router issues except for dragging the general speed of the network down, but that's unavoidable. I have heard of issues with USB 802.11 wireless adapters though. I've read several reports of crashing and poor performance.
As for the USB port on the router, I've only seen them on Apple's stations and their function is fairly limited. Why do you want a USB port on the router?

I'm assuming that is how I would print on my USB printer without using my imac as a quasi server, ie my imac would have to be on in order to print from my ibook.

Sure, but keep in mind that Apple's routers are MUCH more expensive than third party routers (which as far as I know lack USB print serving).
