Hello,
I have used Linux for many years and have QB2000 on an old Laptop. I have decided to migrate to a PB 15" and have been looking for some replacement software. After reading a couple of pages in this section, I am going to keep my QB2000 on my old PC laptop and save $199! It seems I will be giving myself problems that I don't want or need. The old saying applies here; If it ain't broke.......

I too am piqued by the constant full price/annual upgrade policies. When I bought QB5 after a long absence from the Mac platform, promises were made that everything that had been left out to make the data interchangeable with windoze would be forthcoming.
What "we" got was another opportunity to dump $299.00. And when I bought QB6, it wasn't a month later that now the latest and greatest is QB2005, for another $299.00.
What the hell ever happened to an UPGRADE??
I'm in the market for a different software developer.

efg,
Your upgrade $$$$ should be $199. I now use QB 2000 and was told by Intuit support that my price would be $199. I would have to download the demo disk of QB2005 for Win* and convert my company files to the new format. Then it would be a simple matter of restoring a backup........How many times have we all heard this song & dance from various software companies!
My $.02

efg,
Intuit does accomodate recent QuickBooks purchasers when a new release comes out just after a purchase. QB comes with a 60-day moneyback guarantee. If you purchased 6.0 just before 2005 came out, return it! and get 2005. As a prior QB purchaser [you said 5.0 as well as 6.0], you are eligible for the upgrader pricing of $199. Check the details on the website or with your software reseller.

I have read a lot of QB 2005 feedback online and have decided not to upgrade. I am using 5.0 and it is working fine except for some things that have infuriated me for many a version (invoice customization, deactivation of accounts, "memo" inconsistency in reports, etc.).
I am a one-person shop. I cannot afford the time for software that takes too much time to make it work as well as its predecessor. I have never seen an application release (except the latest QuarkXPress) with as much dissent.
As soon as I start seeing consistent 3+ ratings, I will gladly upgrade. Until then, I cannot in good conscience spend a couple hundred dollars for something that is not well received and which so many customers say doesn't do what it has promised.
I encourage other users to give Intuit similar "can't-upgrade" feedback ( http://sfloop.intuit...ac&version=vX.) They need to know they are losing business.
I just want the program to work as well as it did in 5.0, and be able to communicate with my Windows-using CPA. No one cares about .mac accounts, etc. We just want our software to work quickly and efficiently, and be dependable.
It looks like the only safe way to use QuickBooks is to buy a low-end Windows PC and dedicate it to bookkeeping. And I'm not doing that.
invoice customization means being able to MOVE and resize columns, control rule weight, etc., not just add a logo or background image.
